uMLALAZI LOCAL MUNICIPALITY IN PARTNERSHIP WITH DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH CATHERINE BOOTH HOSPITAL HOLDS HEALTH WORKSHOP FOR WARD AID COMMITTEES
uMlalazi Local Municipality, in collaboration with the Department of Health Catherine Booth Hospital, successfully held a capacity building workshop today at the uMlalazi Council Chambers, for Ward Aid Committees (WAC) from across the municipality.
The purpose of the workshop was to:
1. Educate committee members on key health issues, preventative health practices, and community health programs
2. Strengthen collaboration between traditional leadership, ward councillors, and health stakeholders to improve service delivery at ward level
3. Empower Ward Aid Committees to serve as a link between the community and health facilities for awareness, referrals, and support
Discussions focused on primary health care, disease prevention, maternal and child health, HIV/TB, mental health, nutrition, and sanitation.
The importance of working together across traditional authorities, ward councillors, and health teams was emphasized to ensure no household is left behind.
The Municipality and Department of Health reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Ward Aid Committees with information, resources, and training so they can play an active role in promoting healthy and resilient communities.
