A PARTNERSHIP TO SUSTAIN AND ACCELERATE ECONOMIC GROWTH

The 42 small businesses offering easy access to a wide range of goods and services at Eshowe taxi rank have benefited from trading compartments donated by UMlalazi Municipality in partnership with the department of Economic Development Tourism and Environmental Affairs. The partnership aims to promote small business development and growth while unlocking marketability and creating jobs.

The R18.9 million trading compartments were officially handed over to beneficiaries on 13 March 2016. ‘‘It does not only end with only giving them stalls – there’s a lot that has been done by the municipality in association with EDTEA to assist all beneficiaries with trading skills and access to essentials,’’ added Cllr Thelumoya Zulu, His Worship the Mayor of uMlalazi Municipality.

CHANGING LIVES THROUGH COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Community development means providing facilities and infrastructure which ultimately serve to pull together the various threads that define and support a community. The role of community development is to support people and community groups to identify and articulate their needs, and to take practical, collective action to address them.

SPORT FIELDS

We consider sporting facilities to be an important contribution to the well-being of residents. As local government, we believe we are the closest to the people, and prioritising the well-being of our residents is of outmost importance. The National Development Plan emphases the role of local government in building social cohesion by providing green spaces and community sport and recreation facilities which enable communities to interact at a local level. uMlalazi Municipality responds by encouraging a healthy sporting culture through our rural sport development programme which focuses on unearthing local talent. His Worship the Mayor of uMlalazi Local Municipality, Cllr Thelumoya Zulu, believes that these platforms will make an impactful contribution to national sport and economic development.
